About the Author
Dr. Gladys A. Barrio was born in Cuba, raised in Puerto Rico, and now resides in Miami, FL. She holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Miami and has authored over twenty-five scientific publications. Dr. Barrio served as Executive Director and Science Supervisor for Miami-Dade County Public Schools. She taught Chemistry and Methods of Teaching Science at various universities. A mother of two and grandmother of five, she draws inspiration from family for her writing. Gladys’ dream was to chronicle her parents' saga, from the Spanish Civil War to the Cuban exile, highlighting their quest for freedom and cherished values.
Dr. Gladys A. Barrio is a celebrated author who has received multiple prestigious awards and recognitions. Her historical memoir, “Empowered By The Dream: A Journey of Resilience,” was honored by the International Impact Book Awards, standing out as one of twelve books selected among 140 submissions in the Memoir and Historical Fiction categories. She also earned 2nd Place in the Historical Fiction-Multi-Period Family Saga category at the BookFest Awards. Additionally, her short story “Massabielle” was awarded 2nd Place in the South Florida Writers Association Short Story Competition.
